ATTENTION: VETERANS
There is a great deal of confusion about the funeral benefits to which Veterans are entitled.
Some Veterans think they are entitled to a completely free funeral, some think they are entitled to nothing, and others are somewhere in between those two extremes.
An astounding fact is that 1,700 Veterans pass away each day--that is more than one Veteran per minute!
After losing a loved one, a family’s grief is often compounded by the shock to hear that the VA is not going to pay for the funeral costs.
Perhaps they had heard from others that Veterans could be buried in a National cemetery for free; that perhaps it would also include funeral or cremation arrangements.
If you wish to use a National cemetery the U.S. Government provides excellent benefits; however, there is little or nothing available to cover the associated costs for a funeral or cremation service.
Many people have been asked what “pre-planning” means to them.
Some people think that pre-planning is simply purchasing a cemetery plot or deciding they will be buried in a National cemetery.
They are partially correct but there are many more considerations.
